Get Wise, Get Help for Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that are the farthest teeth back in the jaw. Wisdom teeth most often emerge between the ages of 17 and 25—except when they don’t.
Sometimes these teeth are trapped within the jaw and don’t emerge. When the teeth become impacted, they can cause symptoms including:
- Jaw Pain
- Head pains (in the form of a prolonged headache)
- Swelling around the jaw
- Redness, tenderness, and swelling of the gums
- Bad breath or a yucky taste when biting near the area of the impacted tooth
See a dental specialist if you have jaw pain and other signs of an impacted tooth. In most cases, surgically removing the tooth will relieve the pain and eliminate the risk of any future problems. Impacted wisdom teeth are fairly common, and there are no known factors that make anyone more likely to have this problem.
