Know the Signs of Sinusitis

Many conditions can cause head pain, including sinusitis, a condition in which the linings of the sinuses become inflamed and swollen.

This causes the feeling of pressure and throbbing in the cheeks, forehead, and the area around the eyes that is often associated with sinus head pain.

Sometimes the signs of sinus head pain are confused with migraine pain, but unlike a migraine, sinus head pain is not associated with nausea or vomiting, and it doesn’t get worse with noise or bright lights.

The symptoms of sinus head pain include:

  • Pain or pressure in the cheeks, forehead, and eyebrow area
  • Head pain that gets worse when bending forward or lying dow
  • Sore throat or cough
  • Fever
  • Nasal discharge that is bloody or yellowish green

If over-the-counter pain medication doesn’t help and your symptoms persist, see a specialist. He or she can evaluate you for sinusitis and prescribe antibiotics if necessary.
