Bladder Bothered? Could Be Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis, also known as painful bladder syndrome, can often cause abdominal pain ranging from moderate to severe. Some people with interstitial cystitis may think that they have a urinary tract infection. But here are some clues that your pain may be interstitial cystitis instead:
- Does your abdominal pain run the gamut from moderate to severe, accompanied by a feeling of pressure on your bladder?
- Are you female? Interstitial cystitis is most common in adult women, although men and children can develop it too.
- Do you have to urinate frequently? According to the Mayo Clinic, people with interstitial cystitis may urinate as much as 60 times daily.
Interstitial cystitis can be one of the causes of lower abdominal pain, and it can also interfere with your quality of life; chronic pain and interrupted sleep due to nighttime trips to the toilet can create stress and anxiety.
